Preah Vihear temple damaged in Cambodia-Thailand border clashes

Cambodian officials revealed that the UNESCO-listed Preah Vihear temple sustained extensive damage during the 2025 border conflict with Thailand, including shrapnel scars and broken sandstone from artillery shelling and aerial bombardment. AFP was the first international media to access the site, documenting 420 damaged parts of the 11th-century complex. The temple, a source of longstanding territorial dispute, was caught in the fighting that killed dozens and displaced over a million people before a December ceasefire.
