UNESCO Inscribes Angkor on World Heritage List in 1992

On 14 December 1992, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed the Angkor archaeological site in Cambodia on the World Heritage List. The decision came during a period when Cambodia was under the administration of the United Nations Transitional Authority (UNTAC) following the Cambodian-Vietnamese War and the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements. The site was simultaneously placed on the List of World Heritage in Danger to address urgent conservation needs, and it was removed from that list in 2004 after successful preservation efforts.
